About UsWere proud to have served the Greater Cleveland, Ohio area since 1968. As we head towards our fourth decade we are beginning to make our terrific products and services available for order throughout the entire U.S. and Canada. A Long and Rich History of Dedicated Service Our store, as we know it today, was born in the late 1960's in Parma, Ohio. The owners at that time were a couple by the names of Arthur & Jan, hence the name "A&J Trophy". We believe this entrepreneurial challenge started out as a combination of sales of Tee Shirts at a local flee market, and sales of trophies to the many city little league sporting events. These two working in harmony, developed a clientele and then were able to employ a few more people to handle the work load. In an unforeseen circumstance in the early 1970's, Arthur passed away at a relatively young age. Jan then had to decide what to do, continue on with this store or go onto the next opportunity. She decided the latter. Along came a man named Bill. This gentleman was no stranger to Jan because Bill was a traveling salesman whose products included not only lighting fixtures for the lighting industry, but also a line of trophy parts. Bill had visited Arthur and Jan on occasion to fulfill their parts needs for their thriving trophy business. He noticed that they seemed to be doing a good business. At this time his oldest daughter, Karen was recently married, and Bill thought this type of business might be something she and her husband could operate. Therefore he made an offer to purchase the business from Jan, and the offer was accepted. The store front was located on Pearl Road, a major thoroughfare in Parma and the year was 1974. With the new ownership, the next few years became a learning experience for both the management and workers. After these few engaging years, the future became more fruitful. The number of new customers grew as did the knowledge and experience of all the employees. But in the late 1970's, the management took yet another turn and Karen took on the position of Store Manager, as her (then) husband went into another line of work. This was an easy transition being that Karen handled most of the day to day operations in the shop. In 1980, Bill's oldest son, Chip came into the business. Starting out as a trophy assembler, he quickly became familiar and experienced in the engraving process. This education at this level helped him into experimenting with other forms of engraving and printing. But then in mid 1980's, Karen went on to another employment opportunity. So Chip became the Store Manager. He and the secretary, Kathy for A&J Trophy were then the sole employees. This worked out well. In fact so well that Chip & Kathy were married in 1988. For the next decade, things were going smoothly. In the early 1990's, Kathy relinquished her secretarial position to her daughter Carolyn. And then a few years went by and another daughter, Renee came to work with us at A&J Trophy. Carolyn took on a position at a law firm to further her career. To this day she continues to succeed in that career. Therefore you will notice that this company has been in business for over 35 years to date. We continue to thrive by offering products created from years of experience and service to our customers. This service is cultured by an unwavering dedication and a genuine interest in the unique needs of each customer. This has resulted in our earnest commitment to the never-ending task of bringing new and exciting products to offer both our prospective and loyal customers alike. |
